Writing Together

A Creative Community in Thiruvananthapuram

In a world where writing is often a solitary act, some spaces offer a collective breath of inspiration. In Thiruvananthapuram, Let’s Write Trivandrum is one such space—a thriving creative writing community founded by Narayan Menon two years ago. Twice a month, in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, a group of passionate writers gathers to write, share, and connect.

A Space for Writers to Explore and Grow

Each meeting is a reminder that writing is not just about putting words on paper but also about listening—to ourselves, to others, and to the stories that emerge when we come together. There’s something deeply energizing about being surrounded by people who love words, who are willing to explore, and who trust the process of writing as a living, breathing act of creation.

An Inspiring Venue: Vyloppilli Samskrithi Bhavan

These gatherings take place at the Vyloppilli Samskrithi Bhavan, a serene cultural hub in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Surrounded by greenery, this inspiring space blends traditional Kerala architecture with a dedication to literature, music, and the arts—an ideal setting for creative exploration.

A Writing Challenge Rooted in the Natural World

For this session, Narayan proposed a theme that resonated deeply with my work: writing a short poem or micro-fiction about an interaction with an animal (other than a pet) and the lesson drawn from it.

The variety of stories amazed me: from mosquitoes to pigs, cats to dragonflies, sparrows to butterflies, each piece reflected a profound attention to the living world. Whether novelistic, poetic, or narrative, the writing showcased a unique blend of observation, spontaneity, and mastery of form.

The Magic of Shared Stories

The experience left a lasting impression with its authenticity. Narayan Menon, with his warmth and storytelling talent, fosters a sense of creative freedom, making these gatherings a space where stories travel and unfold naturally. He even shared that our discussions had made him more conscious of the animals around him.

The Power of Writing in Community

These moments remind us that writing, even when deeply personal, becomes richer when shared. A beautiful stopover in the journey of words.
